Overview
The Oral Health Program of
the Yakima Health District
provides educational services
including classroom activities
and programs, oral health
training for parents,
teachers,
nurses, and child
care providers, and participation
in community health events.
Educational
topics range from basic dental
health practices, such as
flossing, brushing, and seeking
regular dental care, to "Baby
Bottle Tooth Decay" prevention,
to the health hazards of using
smokeless or "spit"
tobacco. Health District staff
members also participate in
the Yakima
County Oral Health Coalition,
which seeks to improve access
to dental care for everyone.
The
Health District provides no
dental treatment, but we work
closely with the dental clinics
and offices within the county
to help people find a dentist.
"Smile
Survey" shows that many
children in Washington continue
to suffer unnecessarily from
tooth decay
